About this tool

Every device online has an IP address, and public geolocation databases map address ranges to countries, regions, cities, internet providers and time zones. This tool shows the public IP your connection is using and what those databases say about it, or looks up any other IPv4 or IPv6 address you enter. It is useful for checking whether a VPN or proxy is active, identifying the network behind a log entry, or confirming which region a server appears to be in. Keep in mind that the location is an estimate of where the provider registers the address, often a city or data centre rather than a street. Unlike most tools on this site, lookups have to query a geolocation service through our server.

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is IP geolocation?

Country is usually correct, region is often correct, and city can be off by tens or hundreds of kilometres, especially on mobile networks. The coordinates point to an approximate area, never to a specific home or building.

Why does the tool show a different city from where I am?

Your provider may route traffic through a regional hub, you may be using a VPN, proxy or iCloud Private Relay, or the database may have outdated information for your address range.

What do ISP, organisation and AS mean?

The ISP is the provider that operates the network, the organisation is the entity the address block is registered to, and the AS (autonomous system) number identifies the network in internet routing, for example AS15169 for Google.

Can someone find my home address from my IP?

Not from public databases. Only your internet provider can link an IP address to a subscriber, and it normally releases that information only to authorities under legal process.

Is my lookup stored?

The address you look up is sent through our server to a third-party geolocation service (ip-api.com, with ipwho.is as a fallback) to fetch the result. The site's own analytics does not record these lookups, but avoid querying addresses you need to keep confidential.
